The two brothers used to be extremely close, but their relationship seems to have changed a lot in the past few years. While a fight can be a stressful experience for both parties, Prince William and Prince Harry are not doomed to be at odds forever. There are some things that the two of them can do to mend the rift between them.
How the feud between Prince William and Prince Harry allegedly started
According to many reports, the feud started when Prince Harry was dating Meghan Markle. Prince Harry was allegedly moving very fast in his relationship, which made Prince William concerned for his brother.
However, when Prince William sat Prince Harry down to discuss this issue, the latter “went ballistic” and did not like that his relationship was being questioned by an outsider.
Royal expert Katie Nicholl shared: “Harry supported William from the outset of his relationship with Kate and he felt very let down that he wasn’t getting his brother’s full 100 percent support with the relationship with Meghan.”
It seems that ever since then the brothers have been distant and not as close as before. After Prince Harry and Markle tied the knot, the newlyweds moved out of Kensington Palace and also set up their own charity organization separate from the one that they used to share with Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Prince Harry might have confirmed that the feud exists
While rumors about the feud had merely been speculations from royal fans, Prince Harry himself recently said something that could be perceived as a confirmation of the existence of a royal rift. In the documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey that was released last month, Prince Harry revealed that he and his brother do have some tension between them.
“Part of this role and part of this job and this family being under the pressure that it’s under… inevitably, you know, stuff happens,” Prince Harry shared, though he also added that “the majority of stuff is created out of nothing.”
In any case, Prince Harry acknowledged that he and Prince William will always have an unbroken bond no matter what happens, saying: “We’re brothers. We’ll always be brothers. We’re certainly on different paths at the moment but I will always be there for him and, as I know, he will always be there for me.”
How Prince William and Prince Harry can fix their relationship
Last week, an insider confirmed to Us Weekly that there is indeed a lot of tension between Prince William and Prince Harry. Aside from the situation surrounding Markle, the source also revealed that the feud has been exacerbated by the princes’ differing personalities and roles in the royal family — things that actually started long before Markle entered the picture.
“There’s always been a part of Harry that felt like he was living in his brother’s shadow,” the insider said. “He doesn’t envy the responsibility that comes with being the future king of England, but William’s the ‘golden boy’ and Harry feels like he has a lot to live up to.”
The source shared that, while things are not looking good at the moment, their relationship can improve if they “put in the effort to rebuild” it.
It is not clear what exactly this “effort” involves, but like any feud that occurs between two people, any improvement will need to include things like correcting misunderstandings and repairing hurt feelings. Perhaps with time, we will see Prince William and Prince Harry be on good terms again.
