Chad Morris is out at Arkansas after less than two seasons. The Hogs were drilled 45-19 at home by Western Kentucky, dropping Morris to 4-18 and just 2-18 against FBS opponents. He went 0-14 in the SEC.

Sitting in the SEC West is going to make this job a steep uphill climb. It’s still a Power 5 job, and coaches have won there, most recently with Bobby Petrino going 21-5 in two seasons earlier this decade before his ill-fated motorcycle ride.

But the feeling here is that for many coaches this isn’t as attractive as the Florida State vacancy, which has a better recruiting pool and is in a conference with one heavyweight program going full blast right now. The SEC has at least four of those, maybe five or six.

In 2013, the Hogs hired a proven winner in Wisconsin’s Bret Bielema who had a 40-13 record in his final four seasons in the Big Ten. But in five years in the SEC, Bielema struggled to get traction with the Hogs, going 29-34 before being forced out.
