A home invasion in Florida turned deadly for one of the intruders when a pregnant homeowner reportedly fatally shot him with an AR-15.

An official with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said at a press conference that two men forced entry into a home in Lithia last Wednesday night and “made demands” of the man and woman who lived there.

They then started beating the male homeowner, Maj. Frank Losat said.

"During that incident, the female homeowner retrieved a firearm, which was in the house legally, and fired one round which struck the male victim that was deceased in the ditch," Losat said.

A spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office could not confirm to the Daily News what type of weapon the female homeowner used, nor could she release any information about the victims. Tampa news station Bay News 9 reported Jeremy King was the male homeowner and that his wife, who is eight months pregnant, used an AR-15.

“When he came toward the back door in her line of sight, she clipped him,” King told the TV outlet. “He made it from my back door to roughly 200 feet out in the front ditch before the AR did its thing.”

The search for a second intruder continues, officials said.

Authorities believe the intruders likely targeted the family whose home they broke into and are working to determine why.
