A Republican congressman condemned President Trump for quoting a pastor who said impeachment could lead to a “Civil War like fracture" in the country.

“I have visited nations ravaged by civil war,” Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger tweeted Sunday. “I have never imagined such a quote to be repeated by a President. This is beyond repugnant.”

Earlier Sunday, Trump tweeted commentary from Fox News contributor Robert Jeffress, a pro-Trump megachurch pastor, who predicted the president’s potential impeachment could trigger a violent conflict.

“I do want to make this prediction this morning: If the Democrats are successful in removing the president from office, I’m afraid it will cause a Civil War-like fracture in this nation from which this country will never heal,” Jeffress said.

Trump’s July call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in which Trump asked his Ukrainian counterpart to investigate his potential 2020 challenger Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, prompted House Democrats to begin a formal impeachment inquiry last week.

The call was part of a whistleblower complaint that alleged Trump asked Ukraine to interfere in the 2020 election and also claimed White House officials sought to “lock down” all records of the call.
