The New England Patriots released Josh Gordon from their injured reserve list on Thursday. This development was expected in that it was said the Pats would release Gordon once he got healthy.

It was also previously reported that Gordon hopes to land with a new team. So, could the Philadelphia Eagles be the veteran wide receiver’s next landing spot?

It’s possible. The Eagles certainly have a need at Gordon’s position considering the abysmal production they’ve gotten from that spot.

But it’s not as simple as the Eagles offering Gordon a contract. Now that the NFL trade deadline has passed, ALL players are subject to the waiver process once released.

The waiver wire order is identical to the current 2020 NFL Draft order so the Eagles are currently projected to be 15th overall. In other words, 14 teams must not put a claim in on Gordon in order for to him to fall to Philly’s spot. Entire draft order via Tankathon.com:

It’s hard to count on Gordon falling to the Eagles. Some other team will probably be willing to take a risk on his talent, especially since they’d only have to pick up the remaining $1 million of his base salary for the rest of 2019.

The Patriots releasing Gordon prior to 4:00 PM today means we’ll find out which team claimed him at 4:00 PM tomorrow (Friday, November 1). Should Gordon pass through waivers unclaimed, he’ll be an unrestricted free agent available to sign with any team.
