1. Dr. John Dalton's office is almost identical to Ullman's office in The Shining.

Director Mike Flanagan told BuzzFeed, "We tried to re-create that as closely as possible, which was just out of eagerness more than anything. There’s no real story reason to do it, but I was like, 'Why not? It’s a job interview!'"
2. The first hospital room that we see Azzie the cat go into (where Dan comforts a dying patient) is numbered "217."

In the book version of The Shining, the scary scenes are set in Room 217, not Room 237 like the movie. However, the Timberline Lodge (whose exterior served as the model of The Overlook) asked Stanley Kubrick to change Room 217 to 237 so their future guests wouldn't be scared of their own real Room 217 (since 237 is a nonexistent room at the Timberline).
3. Danny Lloyd — who played Danny in The Shining movie — has a cameo during the baseball scene in Iowa.
4. There are a TON of references to Stephen King's magnum opus The Dark Tower series. For example, Dick Hallorann tells Dan, "Ka is a wheel," which is a line straight out of The Dark Tower.

5. Bradley Trevor's (the baseball boy) jersey number is 19, which is an important number in The Dark Tower series.

In the Dark Tower books, the hero Roland Deschain starts seeing the "19" everywhere — for example, in names that have 19 letters, numbers whose digits add up to total 19, and branches that spell out the numbers.
6. "Tet Transit" — the name of the bus line Dan takes up to NH — is a nod to the Tet Corporation in The Dark Tower series.

It's significant that Dan arrives on a Tet bus because the Tet Corporation are basically part of the "good guys" in The Dark Tower.
7. And, interestingly, the industrial park that Bradley's body is buried in is owned by LaMerk Industries — another Dark Tower company.

LaMerk Industries is in conflict with the Tet Corporation in The Dark Tower, so it makes sense they're associated with the bad guys here.
8. You can see posters for the musician Joe Collins, aka Dandelo, who is a creature from The Dark Tower.

Joe Collins feeds on the emotions of others, so it's very appropriate his poster appears where Crow Daddy finds Snakebite Andi.
9. There are also several callbacks to the book version of The Shining that never made it into Kubrick's film. For example, when Dan calls Jack/Lloyd a "false face."

In The Shining book, while young Danny is trying to escape Jack, he calls him a "false face" that the hotel is ~wearing~. This is a pivotal moment in the book because Jack is briefly able to control himself and tell Danny to run.
10. And when Jack/Lloyd tells Dan to "take your medicine."

It's actually a line yelled by Jack on a few occasions in The Shining book, but never in Kubrick's movie.
11. The Overlook being destroyed by the boiler is from the book version of The Shining as well.

In the Doctor Sleep book, there's nothing but rubble left of the Overlook when Dan and Abra arrive because it was blown up at the end of The Shining book.
12. The Stone family's house has a sign outside that says "1980" — the year that Kubrick's The Shining was released.

13. When we flash forward to 2019 and Dan is at his AA meeting, he's wearing a light blue sweater that's the same color as the iconic "Apollo 11" sweater young Danny wears in The Shining.

14. There were different-colored typewriters used in Kubrick's movie; for Doctor Sleep they re-created the tan one.

For some reason in The Shining it changes color from tan to a kind of blue-gray. For Doctor Sleep they decided to go with the one they figured everyone would remember most.
15. The way Rose approached Dan on the stairs is a total re-creation of Jack approaching Wendy in The Shining.

16. Dan gets injured and limps around on the same leg that his father did in The Shining.

17. And finally, Jack Torrance/Lloyd goes uncredited in the movie, but he's played by Henry Thomas.

Thomas, as fans will know, is a frequent collaborator of Flanagan's having played the younger Hugh Crain in The Haunting of Hill House and Tom in Gerald's Game (ANOTHER King adaptation!).
