Noctua has released a new 140mm version of its quiet, efficient, and powerful fan called the Noctua NF-A14x25 G2 PWM. The fan comes in three configurations, including a two-fan set with an RPM offset and a quieter version that spins a little more slowly than the standard model. All three are available now, starting at $39.90.
The up-to-1,500rpm fan is the follow-up to Noctua’s NF-A12x25, which you may remember from the company’s collaborations that have seen special versions of Nvidia RTX 4080 and RTX 3080 GPUs that come with the fans attached.
Compared to its predecessor, the A14x25 is about 2dBA louder, uses roughly twice the wattage at max, and takes up a little more space, but it moves about 50 percent more air, according to its specs page.
Here are some of its specs:
- Dimensions (mm): 140 x 140 x 25
- Mounting hole spacing (mm): 124.5 x 124.5
- Speed: 1,500rpm
- Speed with Low Noise Adapters (LNA): 1,250rpm
- Airflow: 155.6 m³/h (127.1 m³/h)
- Acoustical noise: 24.8dBA (19.7dBA with LNA)
- Static pressure: 2.56mm H₂O (1.3mm H₂O with LNA)
- Max input power / current: 2.28 watts / 0.19 amps
Noctua says the two fans of the dual-fan set (NF-A14x25 G2 PWM Sx2-PP) are offset by about 25rpm, which the company says can “avoid periodic humming or other undesired acoustic interaction phenomena.” The set costs $76.90.
Finally, the slower, quieter NF-A14x25 G2 LS-PWM spins at up to 800rpm, and Noctua says it generates just 11.4dBA (or 8.6dBA with an LNA). It uses less than half the wattage of the A12x25, and it’s quieter to boot.
Earlier this year, Gamers Nexus interviewed Noctua engineer Jakob Dellinger about beat frequency and the necessity of offsets. Watch their discussion below for nerdy details about cooling and acoustics (including comparisons of the then-upcoming NF-A14x25 G2 with and without offsets).
