China’s giant retailer JD announced it will take two years to realize a 20-month salary per year for retail employees, with the company’s other sectors to follow suit. JD made the announcement on Friday morning on its official WeChat account, marking the fourth pay hike notice the e-commerce giant has issued this year. Procurement, sales, and other “frontline staff” are among those spotlighted by JD’s salary increases, with the group having already had their fixed salaries doubled on the first day of 2024. In July, JD promised it would raise their annual fixed pay again from 16-month to 20-month gradually in the next year and a half. These successive salary increment notices that the retailing company once ranked second by value among e-commerce platforms is dealing with weak domestic consumption and emerging rivals.
