The Plucky Squire is finally launching for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on September 17. This initial launch is for the digital version, but publisher Devolver Digital has announced the PS5 and Switch versions of the highly anticipated adventure game will get physical releases on February 21, 2025. Amazon and Best Buy have opened preorders for The Plucky Squire, including a special Devolver Deluxe Edition that comes with an art book, soundtrack, and collector's box.

The Plucky Squire Devolver Deluxe Edition costs $55 and comes with a physical copy of the game on either PS5 or Nintendo Switch, plus a selection of extras, including:

  • A Collector’s box with unique cover art
  • A 112-page paperback art book
  • Digital soundtrack download code

The Plucky Squire is one of those games that almost makes too much sense for the art book treatment. After all, the game shares its title with the book inside the game. Now, players will be able to flip through an art book about a game about a book.

If you just want a boxed copy of the game on PS5 or Nintendo Switch without all the extras, you can also preorder The Plucky Squire standard physical edition for $35.

The digital edition isn't available for preorder, but PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam) users can purchase a copy of The Plucky Squire on September 17 for $30.

If you're unfamiliar with the game, The Plucky Squire is an adventure game that mixes multiple genres, including top-down action-adventure, side-scrolling platforming, and more.

You play as Jot, a character in the The Plucky Squire book where the game takes place. Unfortunately, Jot is forced out of his home by Humgrump. This sets up The Plucky Squire's unique visual and gameplay style. The Plucky Squire melds hand-drawn 2D and colorful 3D graphics as Jot ventures forth on his adventure outside and inside of the book. It's an ambitious debut game from indie studio All Possible Futures. The studio was co-founded by ex-Pokemon art director James Turner, and Jonathan Biddle, who served as creative director on another hand-drawn Zelda-like indie, The Swords of Ditto. The game is designed to be approachable for younger players, but based on our latest hands-on impressions, it is shaping up to be a fun time for all ages.
