Marseille have lodged a bid for Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood which would see the Red Devils benefit from a 'significant sell-on clause', reports have revealed.

Greenwood, who has returned to United after his season-long loan with Getafe, held a meeting with United officials on Monday to discuss his impending exit from the club, leaving the team's Carrington training ground without joining in alongside Erik ten Hag's returning players.

According to the Daily Mail, Marseille are progressing in talks with United over a deal which could be worth £27m to the Red Devils.

On top of that cash offer, Marseille are also believed to be prepared to meet United's demands of agreeing to a hefty sell-on clause, which Fabrizio Romano adds could end up being as high as 50%.

Previous reports suggest United would also be open to a loan deal for Greenwood, but only if it also included a mandatory purchase clause. Club officials have informed the 22-year-old, who saw charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control dropped in February 2023, that he has no future at the club.

United hope to sell Greenwood as part of a sizeable exodus which could raise funds for significant business in the summer transfer window.

Two new centre-backs are wanted and United are currently looking at Bayern Munich's Matthijs de Ligt and Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite, the latter of whom was recently the subject of an improved £50m bid.

A new defensive midfielder and a new striker are also expected to be on the radar - talks over Bologna's Joshua Zirkzee are nearing a positive conclusion - but United cannot afford all these signings without selling players first.

Greenwood is one of several players up for sale this summer. United are open to offers for Casemiro, who has interest from the Saudi Pro League, as well as Jadon Sancho and Antony. They hope to raise close to £100m to help finance their ambitious transfer window.
