The Tarnished, in his favorite bear outfit, stands in front of the castle walls, and he sees a tiny bee. The bee looks back at him, and in that moment Mr Tarnished realises that he too is a bee, and throws off his bear costume, lets his tiny buzzy wings unfurl, and flies off into the sky.

The Serpent Flail is a new Flail that can only be found in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. It’s a solid all-around option for Faith-based builds that can be a thrill to use, especially if you like igniting your weapon on fire and slamming it around for some explosive fun. If that sounds up your alley, you’ll want to round this one up—but you’ll need to find a fairly well-hidden secret area to make that happen.

Here’s what you need to know about the Serpent Flail and where to find it.

Serpent Flail stats and features

The Serpent Flail has a weight of 6.0 and requires the following stats to wield:

  • STR:10
  • DEX: 24
  • FAI: 21

The weapon comes equipped with Ash of War: Flare, O Serpent. This Ash of War lights the flail on fire for a brief period. During this time, heavy attacks will slam down and create explosions for extra fire damage against your enemies.

The Serpent Flail can be upgraded to +10 with Somber Smithing Stones.

Serpent Flail item description

The Serpent Flail’s item description reads:

“A flail with coiled snakes for bludgeoning heads. Fire roars within the snakes’ bodies, inflicting horrible burns.

Some of Messmer’s army used these flails to burn hornsent—to brand them with agony and fear.”

Where to find the Serpent Flail

You can find the Serpent Flail in the Fog Rift Fort in Gravesite Plain. While you may have seen this fort early in the game, you actually can’t reach it until you’ve reached Scadu Altus.

Start by finding or fast traveling to the Scadu Altus, West Site of Grace, which is easily accessible to the west after emerging into Scadu Altus from the Castle Ensis legacy dungeon.

From the Site of Grace, step ahead to the side of the cliff and look down. You should spot a couple of tiny ledges leading down into the Fog Rift Fort. Descend them onto the rampart below.

Fight through the straightforward fort until you find a ladder leading into an area with enemies wielding flamethrowers. Defeat all the foes down here, then find the Serpent Flail in a chest against the back wall.
