Inter Miami left-back Jordi Alba was back in training on Wednesday, May 7 and reportedly in high spirits about his return, according to Favian Renkel.
Jordi Alba picked up a muscle injury on Apr. 15 and has missed the last three Inter Miami games. According to Renkel, the Spaniard's timetable was set for the Orlando City game during Rivalry Week. However, it looks like there's a chance Jordi Alba receives some minutes versus CF Montreal on the weekend.
This latest muscle injury was the second he's picked up since joining the Herons. The last muscle injury sidelined the left-back for 18 days (Sept. 22-Oct. 10, 2023) missing five games in total.
Inter Miami has held up well with Alba out winning its last three MLS games. Franco Negri has filled in for the the last three games. After conceding an own goal in the 2nd minute against Nashville, Negri has done a job despite not keeping a clean sheet. Negri logged a full 90 minutes against Nashville and New England Revolution, but was substituted in Inter Miami's 6-2 thrashing against New York Red Bulls.
Getting Jordi Alba back will be a big boost with three games in seven days starting with Montreal on May 11. Inter Miami will play Orlando City midweek on May 15, and then host D.C. United on May 18.
There is a chance manager Gerardo "Tata" Martino brings Jordi Alba back this weekend, though it's more likely the defender returns against Orlando City. Martino won't want to rush a key piece of his defense back.
Inter Miami has a three point lead atop the Eastern Conference albeit with a game in hand over Cincinnati.
