There have been rumors going around about a third main game in the Nier series. Earlier this month, series creator Yoko Taro apparently teased it in a Nier: Orchestra Concert in London, but don't get too excited yet.
According to an anecdote at the concert, the word "REPENT" was repeatedly displayed but was spelled "REP3NT." This had fans speculating that the "3" meant that a new Nier game was being teased.
However, Yoko Taro took to Twitter and simply said, "r3incarnationan." This suggested that he considered the mobile entry, Nier Reincarnation, to be the third game in the series. Nier Reincarnation is currently available on Apple Arcade, but it is shutting down service in April.
It's also possible that Yoko Taro could be teasing that Nier Reincarnation could be coming back in a different form, perhaps on additional platforms. Yoko Taro has been working on other projects in the meantime. In particular, he has been involved on the Voice of Cards series. While we haven't heard official news of a new Nier game yet, the recent Nier: Automata anime adaptation should help make the wait a little easier.
The Nier series saw a surge in popularity with 2017's Nier: Automata, and the game recently passed 8 million copies sold in time for its seventh year anniversary.
