It has been long since Clint Bowyer and Jeff Gordon threw punches at each other in Phoenix. 12 years after the heated altercation, the pair have renewed their rivalry through the Super Bowl. Gordon has been a big fan of the San Francisco 49ers, who lost the Super Bowl game to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Conversely, Bowyer is Gordon’s natural rival after swearing his allegiance to the Chiefs. Taking the battle to Twitter, the former #24 driver has hit back at Bowyer’s sly dig.

NASCAR drivers hail from various regions of the country; owing to the same, their allegiance goes to different teams in the NFL. Having been a part of one of the most heated clashes in NASCAR history for Jeff Gordon and Bowyer, the Super Bowl game was just another reason to reignite that spark. The Chiefs eventually won 25-22 after an intense match in Las Vegas. The win handed the bragging rights to Bowyer, and he landed the first blow as he tweeted,

Clint Bowyer retired from racing in 2020. Having spent a big chunk of his life racing cars, it seemed his career had reached its end. When Kenny Wallace and Kyle Larson discussed the NASCAR careers that ended prematurely, some big names came up. One specific name that caught Larson’s attention was Bowyer’s.
Hinting at the 2012 fight between Jeff Gordon and Bowyer at Phoenix, Larson said, “Well Clint has ran himself hard, I don’t think him feeling a hundred years old has anything to do with him racing. That’s all done outside the race car.”
While Larson’s comment might seem hilarious, it had some substance to it. Despite being a fan favorite and one of the most entertaining drivers on the track, Bowyer had a knack for being involved in fights. His infamous run to Jeff Gordon’s hauler after watching some of his crew members lock horns in the garage remains iconic.
