Nearly a month after the previous release, Apple has given Apple TV owners the anticipated tvOS 17.3 update, alongside a HomePod Software update.
After releasing the latest beta update of tvOS 17.3 on January 9, Apple has officially introduced the newest version of its operating system designed for Apple TV.
Updates to tvOS are usually more modest in scope compared to updates for other operating systems, mainly concentrating on bug fixes and subtle enhancements rather than significant, visible changes.
The tvOS 17.3 release is build number 21K646, replacing tvOS 17.2, build number 21K365.
From the previous tvOS 17.2 release, there were significant updates such as a revamped Apple TV app with a new sidebar menu, Dolby Atmos for SharePlay, voice search in apps, FaceTime improvements, audio focus in Apple Fitness+ workouts, and the start of testing 3D movie support for the upcoming Apple Vision Pro.
At the same time as tvOS 17.3, Apple has released a HomePod software update, build number 21K646. It can be installed now to the HomePod and HomePod mini, via the Home app.
How to update to tvOS 17.3
- On an Apple TV, go to the "Settings" app.
- Navigate to the "System" option in the settings menu.
- In the System menu, select "Software Updates."
- Choose "Update Software." The Apple TV will then check for any new updates.
If users prefer automatic updates, they can enable that feature in the Software Updates section of the System settings. Once activated, the Apple TV will automatically update to the latest tvOS version when available, usually overnight while connected to Wi-Fi.
