After 18 weeks of grueling NFL action, we’ve made it to Wild-Card Weekend and the first round of the postseason. We often hear the term “must-win” during the regular season, but once a team makes it this deep into January, every game is truly a must-win scenario. Like any other week, there’s always a chance that the underdog could step up and surprise the world. That means there are a few teams on upset watch this weekend. - Criss Partee Read More
After a week of controversy, New York Jets signal-caller Aaron Rodgers was welcomed back to The Pat McAfee Show with applause and a standing ovation from its host. (To be fair, McAfee is always standing, though at least he’s wearing sleeves today.) - Julie DiCaro Read More
By now you’ve seen the video of recently fired Atlanta Falcons coach Arthur Smith telling off Saints head coach Dennis Allen with NSFW language after the Saints dispatched Atlanta, 48-17. Jameis Winston’s audible, which allowed Jamaal Williams to rumble into the end zone for his first touchdown of the season in the final minute, set off a squabble between the two division rivals that may last into next season. - DJ Dunson Read More
The Dallas Cowboys are riding high entering the playoffs after securing the No. 2 seed in the NFC and a third consecutive 12-win season. That’s quite the feat for these Cowboys, but means nothing if they can’t break their unlucky streak of bowing out before championship weekend. While Dallas looks poised to at least make it past the wild-card round (they hope), one concern they should have is the timing of kicker Brandon Aubrey having his first two misses during the last game of the regular season. - Criss Partee Read More
It’s one of the toughest times of the NFL calendar. The end of the regular season has been unofficially dubbed “Black Monday” for the head coaches, general managers, and coordinators who will ultimately lose their jobs. In some cases, a relationship has simply run its course, and a business-driven league demands results. In others, like the Tennessee Titans’ dismissal of head coach Mike Vrabel, change is simply made for the sake of change, and a franchise may quickly come to regret its decision. - Cale Clinton Read More
To make it clear right at the top, here are all the things Matt Eberflus was allowed to do to keep his job: Completely waste training camp, except getting pretty much half the team hurt. “Mr Track Shoes” didn’t have his team ready to start the season, starting 0-4 and looking bewildered while doing it. Having two assistant coaches fired for HR reasons, possibly because they were both operating their laptops with their wangs. Blowing three, count ‘em, THREE, double-digit fourth-quarter leads, including one to the Broncos that had given up 70 the week before and then the last one when Eberflus decided to cover Joe Flacco’s only reliable target (David Njoku) with a defensive tackle. And then, to cap it off, after showing some level of spice in the games leading up to the finale, completely turtled against the Packers, once again. - Sam Fels Read More
