ABUJA, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- At least 86 suspected gunmen were killed and 101 others detained by Nigerian government forces in various operations across the country in the past week, the military said Thursday.
Edward Buba, the spokesman for the Nigerian military, told reporters in the national capital of Abuja that the operations by troops focused on striking suspected terrorists' enclaves from air attacks and also exerted significant superior power on areas where the terrorists were hibernating.
Scores of kidnap victims were also set free by troops in the operations, Buba said.
During the period, various arms and ammunition belonging to criminal gangs were recovered by troops, the military spokesman added. ■
