There’s a lot to stream as we prepare to say farewell to 2023. New episodes of Reacher Season 2 premiere Thursday nights on Prime Video, Dr. Death Season 2, which centers on the bizarre story of Paolo Macchiarini, is now streaming on Peacock, and a fun, post-apocalyptic hidden gem by the name of Love and Monsters is available on Netflix. And we didn’t even mention high-profile films like Maestro, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and Leave the World Behind, which are all on Netflix.
Unfortunately, Yellowstone is absent from the above list. All five seasons of Taylor Sheridan’s popular action drama are available to watch on Peacock, but there won’t be any new episodes of the series for the rest of 2023. When exactly will Yellowstone return? Here’s everything you need to know.
Is Yellowstone on Tonight (12/24/23)?
Nope. Yellowstone isn’t airing on Paramount Network tonight. But if you’re a fan of Indiana Jones (“We named the dog Indiana.”), you’re in luck! The channel is airing Raiders of the Lost Ark at 8:00 p.m. ET and The Last Crusade at 10:35 p.m. ET.
CBS had previously been broadcasting Yellowstone reruns on Sundays, but that won’t be the case tonight. The Season 2 finale aired three weeks ago, and the network will begin airing Season 3 episodes on Sunday, January 14. The third season will run through January, culminating with a two-night season finale event on Sunday, January 28 and Monday, January 29.
When Does Yellowstone Return With New Season 5 Episodes?
Next year. Last month, Paramount Network announced that Yellowstone will return for the second half of Season 5 in November 2024. The network also revealed that two new Yellowstone spinoffs — 1944 and 2024 — are forthcoming.
No plot details for 1944 or 2024 were announced, but Variety reports that 2024 is expected to begin airing following the conclusion of Yellowstone, with the show featuring “new cast members and locations with some crossover characters as well.” This is the series that would most likely include Matthew McConaughey, who’s been rumored to star in a Yellowstone spinoff since April.
The second half of Season 5 was originally supposed to consist of six episodes, but during a June 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sheridan said that he might write more than the previously reported six installments. “If I think it takes ten episodes to wrap it up, they’ll give me ten,” he said. “It’ll be as long as it needs to be.”
Is Kevin Costner Leaving Yellowstone?
Production on the final episodes of the fifth and final season will reportedly begin in late spring 2024, but Costner’s level of involvement in the remaining installments is still unclear. The actor revealed in a September court trial that he was initially offered $24 million to do Seasons 5, 6, and 7 of Yellowstone but there were “issues with creative.”
Per Deadline, another source of contention centered around the star’s shooting schedule. Costner reportedly wanted more time to spend on his upcoming multi-part Western movie Horizon: An American Saga, a film in which he starred, directed, co-wrote, and produced.
The situation remains in flux — Costner said in September that he’ll “probably go to court” over his Yellowstone exit — so it’s safe to say that he almost certainly won’t be involved in future spinoffs.
