Rockstar Games has confirmed GTA 6 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. An ex-Rockstar dev explained why the PC port wouldn't be available at the same time as console versions, but the question remains: What about the Nintendo Switch 2? Digital Foundry answered.

In its Direct Special for GTA 6, Digital Foundry creators talked about the long-awaited follow-up to GTA 5 and the consoles it would run on. They touched upon topics such as how much more advanced PCs will be compared to the current PlayStation and Xbox generation, and if the Nintendo Switch successor would be able to handle GTA 6. So far, they are skeptical.

Although the specs for the inevitable Switch 2 haven't been announced, DF's Richard Leadbetter claims that the team has a "pretty good idea" of what to expect based on what they know about the T239 processor. He digs into the hardware in his article on Eurogamer and similarly named video on YouTube.

“I’d love to say it would happen. I don’t think it will, realistically,” Leadbetter said in the GTA 6 special. “Switch 2 is going to be a lot better, a proper generational leap and forward-looking in many ways. But the stuff they seem to be rolling out for GTA 6 is possibly beyond that.”

"The Switch 2 isn't going to be powerful enough to run all that ray tracing. I just cannot see it," his colleague Oliver Mackenzie added.

After a leak, Rockstar Games revealed the first trailer for GTA 6 ahead of The Game Awards 2023. It surpassed 100 million views in 24 hours, proving how wildly anticipated the title is. Rockstar hasn't confirmed whether frame rates will differ between GTA 6 platforms, so keep an eye out for the specs when they come out so that you can make an informed decision.
