Paris Saint-Germain has lately been making sure to sign France’s best players. PSG centerpiece and French captain Kylian Mbappe too has been spearheading this cause for the former. During his recent interview on CANAL + Foot, Thuram was shown a clip of Kylian Mbappe, in which he asks the former, “Why didn’t you come to PSG?” After a quick chuckle, the 26-year-old opened up about his Inter Milan move, I didn’t ask for a guarantee or anything. It’s more a question of feeling, Inter saw me as a number 9, my choice was clear”. He was playing as a winger until he moved to Inter Milan. Per the Frenchman’s prior admissions on his Milan move, the Italian club had contacted him two years back, and even then had plans to deploy him as a #9.

During his Borussia Monchengladbach stint, the French star mostly played as a left winger. Unlike Inter Milan, PSG did not think about him as a striker. Had he joined PSG, there would indeed be a clash, as their MVP Mbappe also plays in the left wing. Let alone Thuram, anyone replacing Mbappe at PSG is an impractical dream. By deciding to switch positions to join Milan, he has indeed taken a tough call. However, it is safe to say that Lilian Thuram’s 26-year-old son has hit the ground running.

Thuram’s Inter Milan stint

Playing as a striker for Inter Milan, Marcus Thuram has recorded six goals and six assists in 15 Serie A matches. The Frenchman also found the net once in the UEFA Champions League in five matches for Inter Milan. His numbers for Milan are much better when compared to his Borussia Monchengladbach stint. In the 2021-22 season, a younger Thuram netted a mere three goals in 21 matches in a winger’s role. The 26-year-old’s performance in Milan clearly explains he might have a better shot as a #9.
