Kim Kardashian West has dated many different men over the years, but one relationship that is still being talked about to this day is her short-lived romance with Kris Humphries.
In the beginning, Kardashian and Humphries made it seem as though their love was solid and that nothing in this world could possibly tear them apart.
Unfortunately, after spending close to a year together, Kardashian ended up filing for divorce just 72 days after they were married.
While many fans weren’t surprised that the couple’s romance came to an end soon after it started, it turns out that the reality star’s family had their reservations about this union from the start.
Kardashian and Humphries married in a lavish, over-the-top ceremony
Eight years ago, Kardashian and Humphries wowed us all when they held one of the most lavish celebrity weddings of all time.
After just six months of dating, the NBA player proposed to Kardashian with a 20.5-carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond ring he helped design. Following their engagement, the couple got to work planning the wedding of their dreams.
Instead of waiting to tie the knot, Kardashian and Humphries wed just three months after getting engaged and their quick wedding planning didn’t disappoint in the slightest.
Millions of fans tuned in to watch the couple’s breathtakingly beautiful wedding ceremony that took place on a private estate in front of 450 guests.
Although this wasn’t the reality star’s first marriage, she pulled out all of the stops when it came to planning out every details of her special day.
From the invitations to her wedding dress, Kardashian was adamant on having a fairytale wedding and she definitely got it.
The entire ceremony was filmed by E! cameras, which documented the wedding in two-part special, Kim’s Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event.
By the looks of things, Kardashian and Humphries couldn’t be happier that they were marrying one another and finally starting their life together.
The reality star realized this marriage was never going to work
On Oct. 31 2011, just three weeks after E! broadcast the four-hour wedding special and 72 days into their marriage, Kardashian filed for divorce from Humphries citing irreconcilable differences.
“I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don’t work out as planned,” Kardashian West said at that time in a statement. “We remain friends and wish each other the best.”
While she remained mum on the details surrounding her short-lived marriage in the beginning, Kardashian opened up about the painful split and prolonged divorce proceedings in 2017.
“At the time I just thought, ‘Holy sh-t, I’m 30-years-old — I better get this together. I better get married,’” she said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. “I think a lot of girls do go through that, where they freak out thinking they’re getting old and all their friends are having kids. So, it was more of that situation. But I knew on the honeymoon it wasn’t going to work out.”
Khloé Kardashian was never really a fan of Humphries
In addition to many fans not seeing this marriage lasting long, members of the Kardashian family predicted the couple’s union coming to an end early on.
Despite her sister being happy with Humphries in the beginning, Khloé Kardashian had reservations about the NBA player ever since they first met.
According to The Richest, Kardashian had trouble warming up to Humphries and always felt as though there was something off about him.
Apparently, the Good American founder believed that the NBA player wasn’t a genuine guy and just didn’t like the traits he showcased while dating her sister.
Because of this, Kardashian didn’t see him as the type of person her sister should be settling down with and was just as shocked as the rest of us when he proposed.
Back in 2016, KoKo revealed during Snoop Dogg’s web series, GGN, that she warned Kardashian West about marrying a man like Humphries.
“There’s a ton of times that like, you know, I’ve told my sister the truth,” she said. “Like when she wanted to marry Kris Humphries, I was like, ‘He’s a fu**king loser. Why are you marrying this fu**king dog?'”
“But she didn’t have to hear me, and that’s OK,” she added. “But the fact is I said what I had to say. And I’m not just gonna dumb myself down and act like this guy’s not a f**king joke, when, for what?”
After experiencing marriage for a whopping 72 days, Kardashian West realized that her sister was right all along and later admitted to her mistake.
“So I said the truth, and you know, in hindsight, she was like, ‘You were right,'” Kardashian shared. “And I think that takes a bigger person to come back later and say, ‘You know what, sister, you were right.'”
