Ariana Grande may have "loved and lost," but in the past year she's been learning and healing.
The Grammy-award winning artist celebrated the one-year anniversary of her hit song "Thank U, Next" by reflecting on the past year n a series of tweets.
"Happy birthday ‘thank u, next,'" wrote Grande. "I can’t believe i’ve spent more time alone this year than i have in my life, i can’t believe how many sessions w my therapist i’ve had, how many times i’ve sung this song, how much i’ve learned and healed, how much i still have to learn and heal!"
The 26-year-old artist also thanked her support system for helping her get through trying times.
"It’s been one hall (sic) of a productive, emotional, wild and yet ... happy! year," Grande continued. "Thankful for my babies who have provided me with endless strength, energy and inspiration... and to my friends who have held me together on the road and at home. i’m sure they’re just as exhausted lmao."
The "7 Rings" artist noted that even after pouring her heart out on "Thank U, Next," she still doesn't know much about love or having a personal life and added that she spends most of her time with her pets.
"anyway, not sure why this anniversary has made me ramble on so much but .... my heart feels good. even though everything is up in the air / i still have a million questions ... i’ve accepted it and feel somewhat whole and that feels like something worth sharing. i guess. love u," she ended her Twitter tribute.
In the past year, the pop star has weathered a called-off engagement to "Saturday Night Live" star Pete Davidson and the death of her ex-boyfriend, rapper Mac Miller – all while she was processing trauma from a 2017 terrorist attack that killed 22 people after her concert in Manchester, England.
"Thank U, Next" has been an emotional song for Grande, as the pop star has had difficulty getting through the song at times.
During a concert in Pittsburgh this year, Grande was rendered speechless for several lines of "Thank U, Next" after getting choked up. The song, which recites Grande's past boyfriends, mentions Miller by his given name: "Wish I could say 'thank you' to Malcolm, 'cause he was an angel."
Grande stopped short of saying Miller's name before struggling through the pre-chorus and then going silent altogether. She continued to dance and began singing again at the start of the second verse.
With the release of "Thank U, Next," Grande delivered her most cohesive and empowering album yet.
