The Florida State Seminoles (4-5, 3-4 ACC) will be without starting defensive tackle Marvin Wilson as the ’Noles head to Boston College (5-4, 3-3 ACC) interim head coach Odell Haggins announced in a statement on Thursday afternoon:

Marvin Wilson sustained a hand injury during last week’s game against Miami. After consulting with our athletic training staff and team physicians it was determined that surgery was the best course of action for Marvin. He had surgery earlier this week and is expected to miss the rest of this season. Marvin is disappointed, but he will remain involved as a captain and respected leader for our team.

With 44 tackles, Wilson leads the ACC among defensive tackles and leads the team in sacks (five). While the loss of the defensive captain will undoubtedly be felt on Saturday afternoon, younger players such as true freshman Tru Thompson and sophomore Robert Cooper will have an opportunity to step-up and get some reps behind the vocal guidance of Wilson and Haggins. Red-shirt junior DT Cedric Wood will likely replace Wilson as Saturday’s starter.

The 6-foot-5, 311-pound Texas-native might have taken his last snap as a Seminole as the former 5-star is eligible for the 2020 draft. If he declares, it is likely that he will be one of the top defensive linemen.

Injuries have plagued Florida State this season and Wilson joins edge defenders Josh Kaindoh and Jaiden Lars-Woodbey who are also out for the 2019 season due to injury.

Florida State likely needs to beat the Eagles in order to become bowl eligible as the Seminoles need to win two of their remaining three games. After BC, FSU will play Alabama State at home on November, 16 and head to Gainesville to play the Gators on November, 30.
