The Pittsburgh Steelers are now 5-5 after Week 11 of the 2019 regular season, but how they got to this record has been a roller coaster ride. After a 33-3 drubbing by the defending champion New England Patriots, the Steelers followed it up with a close 28-26 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2 at Heinz Field. The loss was more than just another loss on the record, but the team lost Ben Roethlisberger in the process. With Mason Rudolph under center in Week 3, he was unable to lead the Steelers to victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara, but did claim his first career win after beating the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football in Week 4.
How did they follow up that prime time win? With a gut-wrenching overtime loss to the Baltimore Ravens at Heinz Field in Week 5. In typical fashion, with their backs against the wall the Steelers gutted out a big win on Sunday Night Football over the Los Angeles Chargers before heading into their Week 7 bye week.
Coming off the bye the Steelers continued their winning ways with a 27-14 win over the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football, and before you knew it they had won three in a row while beating the Indianapolis Colts 26-24 in Week 9. That three game streak turned into a four game streak after they beat the Los Angeles Rams at home 17-12 in Week 10. The good feeling Pittsburgh was experiencing was short lived when the Cleveland Browns smacked them around 21-7 on Thursday Night Football in Week 11.
But before we get ahead of ourselves, it is that time of week where we check in on what other outlets are saying about the black-and-gold in those weekly Power Ranking articles. We all realize these rankings are completely meaningless, but they are great for discussion. Not just where the Steelers are ranked, but who made the Top 5 who should have, or shouldn’t have?

“The Steelers’ corners haven’t been mentioned much with Minkah Fitzpatrick making highlight-reel plays every week, and that’s a good thing. Nelson didn’t have his best game against the Browns -- he was covering Odell Beckham Jr. when the wideout made the 42-yard deep catch over the middle -- but outside of that, Nelson has been solid. According to NFL’s Next Gen Stats, he has been targeted 13% of the time, and quarterbacks have completed 19 of 39 attempts for 259 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions when Nelson is the nearest defender. -- Brooke Pryor”

“All the momentum they seemed to have disappeared with that loss to the Browns. They aren’t good enough at quarterback right now.”

“It’s a night that will live in infamy for Steelers fans ... and that was before Myles Garrett lost his damn mind. The Steelers went to Cleveland as one of the hottest teams in the AFC, and they left with a sobering reminder of how limited their offense appears to be. Mason Rudolph looked completely lost, making a host of panic throws in a four-interception night that puts Devlin Hodges squarely on the radar as an option for Mike Tomlin. In Rudolph’s defense, the second-year pro was forced to play most of the game without James Conner (shoulder), JuJu Smith-Schuster (concussion) and Diontae Johnson (concussion), Pittsburgh’s top three playmakers. Exiting the lineup this week will be center Maurkice Pouncey, who was hit with a three-game suspension (which he is appealing) for his role in the fourth-quarter brawl that will serve as the only lasting memory of this game. Maybe that’s not such a bad thing for the Steelers.”

“The incident in the final seconds of the loss in Cleveland completely overshadowed an inept offensive performance by the Steelers. Their four-game winning streak ended and their bid to reassemble their once-broken season is in peril.”
