GoodNotes 4 will be removed from sale on January 15th, 2020 — Exactly one year after we launched our latest version GoodNotes 5. We wanted to communicate the information early so that you have enough time to prepare.

If you're not using GoodNotes 4 yet, it simply means that you can’t buy the app from the store anymore. Instead, you can purchase our latest version GoodNotes 5.

1. The app can still be used on any device where it is installed

Removing the app from sale won’t remove it from your devices and none of your data will be lost. GoodNotes 4 won’t receive any more updates or bug fixes after January 15th, 2020.

2. The free upgrade to GoodNotes 5 won’t be available any longer

As a GoodNotes 4 customer who paid the full price for GoodNotes 4, you can upgrade to GoodNotes 5 for free using the “GoodNotes 5 Upgrade Bundle”.

This bundle will be removed on January 15th as well. Even if you don’t want to upgrade or can’t upgrade to GoodNotes 5 yet, we highly recommend all existing GoodNotes 4 customers to get the free upgrade before January 15th, 2020. Then you will own the app and you can install it anytime.

Even if your device doesn’t support iOS 12 (which GoodNotes 5 requires), you can still get the free upgrade and install GoodNotes 5 at a later point in time, for example, if you purchase a new device. Otherwise, you will have to pay the full price of GoodNotes 5 after January 15th, 2020.

3. To install the app on other devices, you will need to download it from your purchase history

Since it isn’t available for sale anymore, you won’t be able to install the app from the App Store on other devices where it isn’t installed yet. Instead, you will need to go through App Store > Account > Purchased > My Purchases.

A word to customers of the Volume Purchase Program

Sadly, the Volume Purchase Program (VPP)doesn’t support app bundles, which we’re using to provide the free/discounted update to GoodNotes 5. That’s why we’re sorry to inform you that it won’t be possible to upgrade to GoodNotes 5 using the upgrade bundle if you previously purchased GoodNotes 4 through the VPP. Please have a look at our official public statement for more information.
