The Green Bay Packers head to Los Angeles on Sunday to take on the Los Angeles Chargers looking for their eighth win of the season. With Aaron Rodgers in peak form once again, the Pack are amongst the class of the NFL and look destined for a deep run into the playoffs. Getting a top seed would help their chances tremendously, and to earn one, they need to win tough away games like this one.

The Chargers come into Week 9 with a less than flattering 3-5 record. However, Los Angeles snapped its three-game losing streak in a 17-16 win vs Bears. Their offense ranks middle of the league in yards per game. Phillip Rivers has once again started off the season well. He is second in the NFL in total completions and fourth in attempts. Despite being the focal point of the Chargers offense and being very active through the air, he only ranks 19th in QBR with a 92.5. Even with the return of running back Melvin Gordon, who made his season debut in early October after a long holdout, Los Angeles ranks 28th in the league in total rushing. With such a pass-heavy offense, it’s not encouraging that they sit in the lower third in the league in scoring. This almost feels like a point of no return. Falling to 3-6 would be a huge hill to climb to get into the playoff picture.

Meanwhile, the Packers are dreaming big after a phenomenal start to the season. The 31-24 win over the Chiefs last weekend was a back-and-forth affair and put Green Bay on the radar as Super Bowl favorites. Aaron Rodgers completed 22 passes for 305 yards and three touchdowns in the message sending victory. This was his second straight game with over 300 yards through the air, three scores and no interceptions. His 16 touchdowns on the season is second to only Russell Wilson. While the competition around the league is stiff this season, Rodgers is making a case for a third MVP trophy with the numbers he’s putting up.
