Zac Efron was reportedly hospitalized after contracting a bacterial infection while filming his new reality series “Killing Zac Efron” in Papa New Guinea.
The actor, though, “bounced back quick” and was able to spend the holidays at home following the health scare, he announced on Twitter Sunday.
“I did get sick in Papua New Guinea but I bounced back quick and finished an amazing 3 weeks in P.N.G.I’m home for the holidays with my friends and family,” Efron tweeted.
“Thanks for all the love and concern, see you in 2020!”
It’s unclear what Efron was stricken with, but Vulture cites reports that it may have been typhoid — a deadly bacterial disease that spreads through food and water contamination.
Before returning home, Efron was being cared for at St. Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital in Australia, according to The Sunday Telegraph, who broke the news.
The reality show he was filming, which he’s starring in and producing, is a survival mode series where Efron falls off the grid for 21 days in the remote jungles of the country with nothing but basic gear and a guide partner.
“I tend to thrive under extreme circumstances and seek out opportunities that challenge me on every level,” Efron has said.
“I am excited to explore any uncharted territory and discover what unexpected adventure awaits!”
