Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez snapped back at her critics Saturday in a series of tweets after they blasted her for taking a victory lap on the news of Amazon’s move to Hudson Yards.

The giant online retailer will have more than 1,500 employees in a 335,000-square-foot space in the new Hudson Yards development, The Wall Street Journal reported.

AOC was one of the people who blocked Amazon from getting $3 billion in subsidies to locate its headquarters in Long Island City in February.

“Won’t you look at that: Amazon is coming to NYC anyway – *without* requiring the public to finance shady deals, helipad handouts for Jeff Bezos, & corporate giveaways,” AOC tweeted. “Maybe the Trump admin should focus more on cutting public assistance to billionaires instead of poor families.”

She followed that with a picture of herself sitting on a yellow couch with the caption, “Me waiting on the haters to apologize after we were proven right on Amazon and saved the public billions.”

Her gloating was immediately followed by a barrage of critical tweets, calling attention to the lower number of jobs compared to the 25,000 jobs the Long Island City headquarters was touted to bring.

The Amazon HQ deal you destroyed in Queens would’ve employed 25,000+ people. The new space will employ 1,500. 25,000+ good jobs and increased economic activity at a growing headquarters is far > than 1,500 jobs at a non-HQ. You have an embarrassing lack of business knowledge.

“You went from 25,000 Amazon jobs in your district to just 1,500 being offered OUTSIDE your district. You’re an idiot if you think this is a success for your constituents,” Caleb Hull, a director at the GOP-leaning political consulting firm Targeted Victory, tweeted.

Real estate entrepreneur Jason Haber tweeted, “I bet a lot of shopkeepers and store owners in LIC would have loved those customers in the neighborhood instead of in manhattan [sic]. Plus, what they are taking in Manhattan is much smaller in scope than HQ2.”

AOC responded to the neighborhood change criticism by saying, “If you live in NYC, you would know people commute to work. Amazon would not have paid taxes for many, many years and not contribute to fixing our crumbling subway system. So lots of added strain, no benefit.”

While we’re here, let’s clear up some GOP disinfo:
– “It’s 1500 jobs vs 25,000”: The 25,000 jobs figure was a 10-20 year fantasy # from Amazon, not a promise or agreement. In exchange for that lack of commitment, they wanted billions of public $. Their Y1 jobs projection was 700.

Another tweet read, “While we’re here, let’s clear up some GOP disinfo: – “It’s 1500 jobs vs 25,000”: The 25,000 jobs figure was a 10-20 year fantasy # from Amazon, not a promise or agreement. She also noted that the Hudson Yards office isn’t slated for any subsidies.
