DONALD TRUMP has praised Boris Johnson as the “right man for the time” but urged him to “come together” with Nigel Farage.

The US President made the comments to reporters on the White House lawn yesterday. Asked if he sides with Mr Johnson or Mr Farage, Mr Trump said: “I like them both. Look, I think Boris is the right man for the time. He’s really for the times, he’s a great gentleman, he’s a wonderful guy, he’s tough, he’s smart and I think he’s going to do something.

“I just hope he does it so the US, which is by far the biggest economy in the world, not even close, since I took office we’ve picked up trillions of dollars, trillions, and frankly China has lost trillions of dollars as you very well know.

“We are far and away the number one economy in the world and if you do it a certain way we’re prohibited from trading with the UK.

“That would be very bad for the UK because we can do much more business than the European Union.

“So I think Boris will get it right. They’re both friends of mine, what I would like to see is for Nigel and Boris to come together. I think that’s a possibility.”

It comes after the Prime Minister ruled out an alliance with the Brexit Party leader in the upcoming General Election.

Mr Farage has demanded Mr Johnson abandons his divorce deal which he insists is “not Brexit”.

Speaking in a radio interview on Mr Farage’s LBC show earlier this week, the US President called on the pair to make a pact and become an "unstoppable force".

Mr Trump said: "I would like to see you and Boris get together because you would really have some numbers, because you did fantastically in the election, the last election.

"He has a lot of respect and like for you. I just wish you two guys could get together - I think it would be a great thing."

Mr Farage replied: "Well I tell you what, if he drops this dreadful deal, fights the General Election on the basis that we just want to have trade with Europe but no political influence, do you know what? I would be right behind him."

Mr Trump added: "When you are the president of the United States you have great relationships with many of the leaders, including Boris, he's a fantastic man, and I think he's the exact right guy for the times.

"And I know that you and him will end up doing something that could be terrific if you and he get together as, you know, an unstoppable force."

Mr Trump warned Mr Johnson’s Brexit deal, which he finalised with the EU in October, could prevent the US trading with Britain.

He said: "To be honest with you... this deal... under certain aspects of the deal... you can't do it, you can't do it, you can't trade.

"We can't make a trade deal with the UK because I think we can do many times the numbers that we're doing right now and certainly much bigger numbers than you are doing under the European Union."

The US President also attacked Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, saying: "Corbyn would be so bad for your country, he'd be so bad, he'd take you on such a bad way. He'd take you into such bad places."
