For the second consecutive day, a lingering winter storm has forced New Jersey districts to call for school closures and delayed openings Tuesday as snow cleanup continues.
Snow was expected to stop falling by early Tuesday with snowfall totals ranging up to a foot in the northwest corner of the state. About half of New Jersey was expected to finish the storm with at least three inches as crews worked through the night to clear roads from the first major storm of the season.
Dozens of schools had closures, delayed openings and early dismissals on Monday after the first half the two-part storm primarily affected North Jersey. Snow didn’t start falling in the southern half of the state until midday on Monday. Thousands of homes and businesses had power outages from the storm and Gov. Phil Murphy sent state workers home early.
Winter storm warnings and advisories issued by the National Weather Service expired overnight. The forecast for Tuesday calls for clouds to decrease with higher temperatures in the upper 30s and low 40s.
