Hong Kong International Airport was paralyzed in August when it was hit by an influx of protesters. Thousands of people staged a demonstration at the airport on August 9, occupying the departure hall and preventing the movement of passengers. Because of the disruption, the airport authority took the difficult decision to cancel all flights.

During another demonstration at the airport on August 13, violent protesters assaulted Fu Guohao, a journalist with the mainland media outlet Global Times.

After days of chaos, the airport resumed normal operations on August 14.
