There have been plenty of things that have turned around for the Jets during the last three weeks, but there is one more thing they need to do to truly feel better about this season — get Le’Veon Bell going.
The first-year Jets running back was more involved early last week against the Raiders. Jets coach Adam Gase lined Bell up in the slot on the first play and Sam Darnold hit him for a 23-yard gain. He had 11 touches in the Jets’ first 18 plays. Still … the production was not there. He ended the game with 49 rushing yards and 59 receiving yards.
Bell has not topped 70 rushing yards this season. I think this is the week Bell finally tops 100 yards in a Jets uniform. The Bengals are the worst rushing defense in football, allowing 166.4 yards per game on the ground. They have given up more than 200 yards rushing four times this year and more than 100 eight times.
The Jets have also run the ball better overall in the past two weeks. This offensive line combination has clicked with left tackle Kelvin Beachum back and Jonotthan Harrison and Tom Compton taking over at center and right guard, respectively.
Bell also is over knee and rib injuries that slowed him earlier this season. The holes have been bigger the last two weeks and the Jets look on the verge of breaking some big runs. This is the week the Jets and Bell put it together and run wild against the Bengals.
