EA's Battlefield and Dead Space franchises are crossing over as part of an in-game event for Battlefield 2042. A limited-time event, Outbreak, is coming to Battlefield 2042 and will challenge teams of players to work together to escape a laboratory overrun with Necromorphs from Dead Space.

The Outbreak event runs July 9-16. Those who participate can earn special Dead Space-themed rewards, including a weapon charm and skin, along with a new player card background and tag. You can get a glimpse of the crossover event in the video below.

EA is also selling a new Dead Space-themed bundle in Battlefield 2042 that includes the "Marked Man" specialist outfit, three weapon skins, and other items for 2200 BFC ($20 USD).

Battlefield 2042 released in November 2021, and it had a challenging debut due to a number of server issues and other problems. People also complained about the game's changes to Battlefield's classic class system and match sizes, among other things. Despite these issues, it was 2021's No. 5 best-selling game in the US. EA and DICE supported the game with a series of seasonal updates since launch, but those seasonal refreshes ended with Season 7.

EA is now developing the next Battlefield game and the publisher has assembled its biggest Battlefield team ever to make it. EA CEO Andrew Wilson said the company learned "valuable lessons" from Battlefield 2042. DICE, Motive, Criterion, and Ripple Effect are working together on a "connected" Battlefield universe that will include multiplayer and single-player experiences.

EA formed a team called Ridgeline Games led by Halo veteran Marcus Lehto to contribute to Battlefield's future, but the company was closed earlier in 2024 amid EA's mass layoffs.
