Pacific Gas & Electric on Monday announced there was a “reasonable chance” of a power shutoff as early as Wednesday evening, potentially affecting more than 200,000 customers in 15 California counties.

The announcement of the potential “public safety power shutoff” was prompted by a forecast of hot, windy weather, increasing wildfire risk.
