After leaving the equally high-stakes worlds of British Royalty and American podcasting, Meghan Markle is taking a logical next step in her career. No, she hasn’t been announced as a guest on the next season of Dancing With The Stars (yet!), but if that’s where your head went, you’re not too far off. It’s the other one: Instagram ads.
Tyler Perry is the godfather to a sort-of princess, apparently
Fresh off of Suits’ head-scratching leap in popularity but very not fresh off of its actual last episode, which aired in 2018, Meghan Markle is making her grand return to acting... in a minute or so-long social media ad for a pre-packaged latte brand.
In the ad, Markle appears behind co-founder Hanna Mendoza a number of times as a staffer packing products and listening to Britney Spears, a member of the “slightly nerdy” digital team, and a giggling assistant with a clipboard and a fist bump at the ready.
The ad itself is for a women-led wellness company called Clevr—the kind of place that uses the word “adaptogens” a lot—that Markle has invested in since at least 2020 (via People). “This investment is in support of a passionate female entrepreneur who prioritizes building community alongside her business,” Markle said in a press release at the time. “I believe in her and I believe in her company.” Other celebrities like Oprah and Kim Kardashian have also promoted Clevr’s superfood-filled SuperLatte’s on their own platforms.
While this was just a short stint that looked pretty easy to film, who knows—maybe it will inspire the Duchess of Sussex to make a real return to the silver screen. It would certainly be helpful for her multi-million dollar Netflix deal, which is reportedly hanging by a thread—that thread being “actually producing content.” We’ll see!
