After a temporary cease-fire, Israel's war with Hamas resumed Friday. Within 30 minutes of the truce's end, Israel announced its fighter jets struck Hamas targets throughout Gaza, including a southern Gaza community east of Khan Yunis. Another strike targeted northwest of Gaza City, according to the Associated Press.
Hamas blamed Israel for the end of the truce, saying in a statement that Israel rejected all offers Hamas made to release more hostages and bodies of the dead.
During the weeklong truce, Hamas and other militants in Gaza released more than 100 hostages, most of them Israelis, in return for 240 Palestinians freed from prisons in Israel.
Israeli authorities stressed both their urgent military preparation and their firm commitment to eliminating Hamas. Hamas indicated it's prepared to resume fighting too.
Where Israeli forces advanced into Gaza
The conflict began after an attack in southern Israel on Oct. 7 by Hamas and other Palestinian militants, who killed approximately 1,200 people – mostly civilians and captured over 240 people.

Only hours into the renewed bombardment, Gaza’s Health Ministry said 109 people had been killed and dozens wounded. Israel said it struck more than 200 Hamas targets.
Leaflets urging residents to evacuate and designating Khan Yunis as a "dangerous battle zone" were dropped by Israeli soldiers over parts of southern Gaza.
More than 13,300 Palestinians have been killed since the war broke out nearly two months ago, according to the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry. About 1,200 Israelis have been killed, mostly civilians during Hamas’ deadly Oct. 7 attack on Israel.
